Information & Advice for the foam party operator
Health and Safety - General
Here are some general health and safety issues which you should consider. Most importantly ensure you have public and employee liability insurance and carry a copy of this with you to each venue.
Provide and display warning notices and disclaimer notices in prominent positions around the club. Before the foam is turned on for the first time, insist on a public announcement drawing attention to these notices.
Warn asthmatics, people with respiratory problems and claustrophobics not to enter the foam. Provide the door staff with a copy of the MSDS safety information for the product you are using so they can hand this to medical staff in the event of an emergency.
Ensure you have an evacuation plan as fire exits may be blocked or full of foam. The use of a standby de-foam system in case of emergency is a wise option. Ensure doors and access panels to basements, cellars and open areas below the foam are closed as these will fill up with foam. Ensure you have adequate means to dispose of the remaining foam safely at the end of the night - there are huge environmental issues to consider here as you can no longer simply pour or brush it down the drain! Using a bio-degradable foam concentrate and de-foaming it prior to disposal will normally overcome these issues. Ensure the water supply is clean, potable, tap water. Do not fill tanks from toilet sinks.
Before the guests arrive, walk through the venue with the security staff and point out any potential risks so they may monitor these during the night. Also run through the evacuation procedure. Always carry a first aid kit and several bottles of saline eye wash. Everything becomes very slippery during the show so a good pair of leather or rubber gloves is essential.
